First Call selections confirmed for IMMUFELLOW Postdoctoral programme


IMMUFELLOW Postdoctoral programme has confirmed selections for the first Call for Applications and selected 11 talented researchers to conduct immunology-related projects at the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University.

IMMUFELLOW (Interdisciplinary and Intersectoral Research Fellowship Programme for Future Leaders in Immunology) is a postdoctoral programme co-funded by the European Union’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). In the first call nine applicants were selected to University of Turku and two for Åbo Akademi University as intended.

The selected researchers and their research topics are as follows:

  • Adusumalli Venkata: Development of Upconversion Nanoparticle Based Ratiometric Luminescent Probes for Separation-Free Immunoassays and pH Imaging (DUN-RL-SIP)
  • Dutta Supradip: Exploring the Cell-Mediated Immune Response In-Silico and In-Vitro-Infection vs. Vaccination-Induced Responses for Avian Influenza and Tick-Borne Encephalitis Viruses
  • Gorreja Frida: Integrating CRISPR Screening and Macrophage Engineering to Advance CAR-M Immunotherapy for Breast Cancer
  • Hoursan Hesam: Mechanobiology-Driven Immunomodulation in Cardiovascular Remodeling: A Multiscale Computational Framework (Åbo Akademi University)
  • Kamble Amith Kumar: Engineering of Cross-Protective Monoclonal Antibodies Targeting BamG of Multidrug-Resistant Neisseria Gonorrhoeae. (Åbo Akademi University)
  • Lu Jing: Gateways to invasion: Investigating the 3D Tumor Architecture and Immune Interactions in the Progression of Pre-Invasive Breast Cancer (VISIO-DUCT)
  • Mazhar Maryam: Alpha Synuclein from Blood to Brain – Linking Immune Dysfunction and Neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s Disease
  • Morch Marlene Thorsen: Interactions between Gray Matter Microglial Activation, Neuronal Integrity and Leptomeningeal Inflammation in Multiple Sclerosis
  • Olešová Dominika: Sexual Dimorphism in Endocannabionoid System-Mediated Recovery and Neurometabolism After Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Singh Vaibhav: Microglia and Broad Rim Lesions: Linking Microglial Functional Heterogeneity to Lesion Progression and Clinically Measurable Soluble Biomarkers in MS
  • Stolfi Fabiola: Immune Mechanisms of Ectopic Lymphoid Structure Formation and Persistence in RA: A Multi-omic Niche-on-Chip Approach

All applicants were evaluated by external expert reviewers, and the selected fellows will further strengthen the already extensive and active immunology profiling area in Turku while benefiting from the comprehensive training offered through the IMMUFELLOW programme.

The IMMUFELLOW position are full-time with a fixed duration of three years (36 months). The Fellows are starting their projects before autumn 2026. The programme combines academic excellence with interdisciplinary and intersectoral training, mentoring, and career development. Fellows benefit from international mobility, industry collaboration, and tailored training in science, technology, entrepreneurship, and research beyond academia.

The second application call for the IMMUFELLOW programme will be opened in autumn 2026.
